The weather was line though cold for the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting, and there was a very largo attendance. The racing generally was interesting, but the chief event cr the day, the Grand National Hurdles Race, was won easily l>y Continuance, who went out a strong favourite. In i..*s event Cochrane received a nasty spill when Windage fell, and besides fracturing I his collarbone, he sustained a concussion. The toto. investments exceeded all previous records, amounting to £30,680. as against £19,721 on the second day cf last year. Results: — Hunt Club Cup, about 3 miles.— Flamingo 1, Glenmoro 2, King of Trumps 3. Also started: Oakley, Deer slayer, Tariki, Wirihana, Uncle Tom and Northern Star. Only the placed horses finished. Won by two and a half lengths. Time, Gmin 20 l-oscc.

Also started: Paisano, Whakawoira, Compass, Master Paul, Espartero, Centaur, St. Aidan, Appin, Paritutu, Windage and Kildonan. Master Paul led over the first two fences, but, passing the stand, Continuance was alongside him. From this out Continuance was always in a good position, and won comfortably by three lengths from The Rover, who was two lengths in front of The Native, with St.Aidan in fourth place. Centaur, Paritutu, Windage and Espartero fell. Time, 3mi:i 45soc.

Beaufort Steeples, of 350 sovs; about 2 miles.—Captain Jingle 9.7 1, Sir Lethe 19.10 2, Antarctic 12.9 3. Also started: Hoanga, Lovell, Dorando, Yasmak, The Gunner, Laghmor, Ribstone Pippin, Milo, Corona and Silver Blaze. Sir Lethe and Hoanga were in front at the last fence, but the latter fell there, and Captain •Jingle beat Sir Lethe by a length, Antarctic five lengths away third. Time, smiu 0 l-oscc.

Spreydon Hack Hurdles, Ilf miles. —Gaelic 1, Hawick 2, Gold Pin 3. Also started: Passive, Salopian, Wairiki, Rangiwhcnna and Vinco. Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 21 2-ssec.
