JUN 1011 CADETS. The total strength of the junior cadet force of titty Dominion (•including scout cadets) is 21),bin, an increase of nearly' 5000 on the number for 191,1). Speaking of the scheme for training cadet officers, the Commandant says that from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, and Christchurch there will he annually a supply of about one hundred partially trained young teachers going out to take op scholastic duties in various pat ts of Now Zealand, particularly in conntry distiicts, who well be ready to look after and drill the junior cadets at their schools. The work of providing schools with miniature ranges to replace the 29!) yards open-air ranges which have been abolished, is being proceeded witii as expeditiously as possible; but the utmost care is being exercised in the, selection of sites and types of langcs, with a view to economy' and safety'. Those ranges, he says, afford a most satisfactory form of target practice for junior cadets, both, from the point of view of efficiency and economy. The expenditure for the year amounted to ii 7600.
