THE SoGAil STRIKE. .THE ’TROUBLE SPREADING. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. United Press Association. Sydney, August 8. The Trolly and Draymen’s Union has decided not to handle sugar landed by the Araniac and now stacked on the wharf. More serious developments are expected when tho Mintaro arrives to-morrow with 2000 tons of sugar. The Secretary of tho Wharf Labourers’ Union states that as this was loaded by non-unionists, none of the waterside workers will handle it, and it is impossible for the Colonial Sugar Co. to land such a large quantity with the aid of clerks and stevedores in tho emergency. A conference of Lie delegates from the various unions interested discussed the situation, and resolved to await the decision of the conference.
A meeting will be lield at Brisbane to-morrow before formulating a plan of campaign.
The Labour Council lias forwarded a further £3OO to the Brisbane Strikers’ fund.
The waterside workers are determined not to handle tlio non-union sugar. The Sugar Company is equally determined to bring sugar to southern ports. The position is considered ominous.
A Brisbane wire reports that the Mintara lias put back there after being nineteen hours out.
