y ABSTAINING FROM BIDDING. (Per Press Association ) • . Wellington, August 2. A unique case, said to be the first of its kind in the world, was hoard before Mr Kiddcll, S.M., to-day. Patrick James Murphy was charged with having, on February 28th last, at Wellington, offered to accept money ds an inducement to abstain from bidding as ah intending purchaser of a license for Crown lands. The penalty for the offence is provided in section. 69 of tho Land Act, 1908, : at a fine of £IOO or twelve months’ imprisonment. It was alleged that Murphy, who held the run adjoining that of Edgar Spooner, met the latter outside the office of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, when Spooner was about to enter to bid for the purchase of the renewal of the license of his own lease, and offered to accept £2OO to refrain - Loin corepc. iag' in t’ o bidding.
