PERILS OF THE SEA.
A BATTERED BARQUE. Sydney, August 2. The American four-masted barque Espada, from Puget Sound to Adelaide, was towed in partially dismasted and in a leaky condition. She encountered gales in the vicinity of Samoa, and sprang a leak. Her timber cargo prevented her foundering. Site took refuge in a cove in one of the islands, and the water being pumped out she resumed her voyage. Further gales sprang up. and she again leaked badly. Sails wore carried away, but with careful navigation she succeeded iu reaching port. The crow of 'the Espada suffered great hardships, owing to the shortage of stores, duo to the protra :t 'd voyage. A DISABLED STEAMER. Sydney, August 2. Tho steamer Kamona, hound from Westport to Thursday Island, until a cargo of coal for warships, put into Sydney for repairs. She struck violent weather, and her boiler tubes began to leak. Arrangements have been made to send tho coal by the Whangs pc to Kocpang, Java, where she will meet tho fleet. (Per Press Association.!
Wellington, August 2 The Wanimoo, winch arrived I’icin Sydney to-day, reports that at midday on Sunday, she sighted the steamer Kamona, which left Westport on July 25 for Thursday Island, with Admiralty coal. The Ivamona, which vas then about 300 miles from Sydney, signalled that she was proceeding to Sydney for repairs. She was then slowly steaming along, and apparently was not in need of assistance.
