COSTLIEST HAT.
London, June 8. Tho nioso expensive hat in tiie world was on view' yesterday at the annual exhibition of Ascot and Grand Prix lints, held by the Muison Lewis at their saloons in Regent Street. It has been especially designed by M. Lewis for Princess Miahcsco dc Bnkharest, one of the wealthiest and most fashionable women in Roumania, and its price is 200 guineas. It is a large black tagal hat, lined with silver lace and covered with a wealth of white ospreys, which tower high into tho air. A cluster of silver roses in front completes the trimming. It was pointed out to a press representative that the unusually high price of the model was duo to tho ospreys. This particular millinery, which lias caused so many indignant protests against cruelty to birds, has become so scarce that the small quantity which is still on the market lias risen enormously in price, and in accordance with fashion’s usual foibles this fact suffices to make ospreys the rage of the season. . Resides making the costliest hat in the world, M. Lewis has produced the largest hat over created, for tho Ascot race meeting. This is also a black tagal, lined with delicate shell-pink chiffon and trimmed witn black paradise plumes. Its circumference is 87 inches, and the paradise plumes tower more than half a yard above the brim.
