(Received 8, 8.10 a.m.) Mexico City, August 1 . Blood was shed at Eloro through a mob of striking miners freeing prisoners at the local gaol. They attacked the troops, and the latter fired, killing fourteen and wounding many. STRIKE AT MANCHESTER. London, August 1. Three thousand live hundred engineers’ labourers struck at Manchester for a minimum wage of £1 weekly. The strike affects 9000 workmen. THE SUGAR TROUBLE. (Received 2, 9.35 a.rn.) Brisbane, August 2. A wire from Childers asks for more protection for free labourers. It is stated that the strikers are armed and are forcibly removing free labourers. Work on sugar farms lias been suspended. A further batch of police was sent to Childers last night. Another report states that a party of strikers forcibly removed ( four free labourers and disarmed the owner of the farm, who went to the scene with a loaded gun. From Cairns it is reported that the strikers 'rushed a cottage where there were a number of free labourers camped, assaulted the inmates, smashed lamps, furniture and windows, and decamped. One arrest was made.

The strikers have instituted a thorough system of picketing. The secretary of the Labour Federation has received a reply from the Sugar Producers’ Association intimating that it is unable to entertain the men’s claims, and suggesting that they be submitted to the Wages Board.

The Peninsular, Blue Funnel, and Shaw, Savill Companies are affected.

The men assort that the masters recently agreed to a uniform Sd per hour for all classes of dock workers, and that the masters now repudiate the agreement.
