COLONIAL WINE.

The evils arising out of the sale of colonial .wine in tne North Auckland district were brought under the notice of the Acting-Minister for Justice to-day by a deputation from the New Zealand Alliance. Representatives of the Alliance said it was well known in the North that the wine-selling business bad got entirely out of hand, and was now one of the most pernicious things in connection with the bale of liquor that was known in the Dominion. They wore not able to estimate the amount of grapes used in the. manufacture of wine, but it was suggested that the liquor was doctored in a most outrageous manner, the result being demoralisation of those who purchased it. The Minister.said that to a large extent police reports boro out the statements made by the deputation. It was difficult to provide sufficient police to control such a scattered district, but lie thought it was necessary to amend the law which did not deal with the adulteration of wine except when it was sold by persons holding a wine license or in small quantities.
