THE COUNTIES’ CONFERENCE.
O (Per Press Association.) The Taranaki Comity -Council is aidvised that the Conference of the .New Zealand Comities Association will bo opened at Wellington On Tuesday, August 22. The Taranaki Council will bo represented by its chairman, Mr J. Browne, who will move the billowing remits: —
1. That tlio Public Works Act i.c amended so as to give the Governor power by proclamation to prohibit, the removal of stone within live chains of any bridge, dam, ford, or weir, it respective of the rights of ripai ian owners.
2 That the definition of public woik« in section 2, Public Worts Act, ] bo »-vended s*» as to t* i i*i ie stone crushing site or stone breaking site.
3. That an additional subsection he added to section 3, Public Works Act, 1908, as follows: ‘After twenty-four hours’ notice to the owner or occupier to go through any land or over any bridge on such land other than land occupied in a bona fide manner as a garden or ornamental shrubbery for the purpose of carting stone, gravel or other material from any river, stream or metal that may bo on an adjacent owners’ land.”.
4. That subsection 1 of section 8, Counties Act, 1908, be amended by striking out the words “actual travelling.” The section would then nad ; “The council may from time to time vote such reasonable sums as tt deems sufficient to defray the expanses only of councillors coming from a distance lot exceeding throe miles to attend nuttings of the Council.”
5. That section 82 of the Counties Act. 1908, be repealed and the following substituted: “The council may vote t.:e chairman an annual all.nvar.ce at a i ate not exceeding one hum!re 1 pounds per annum, and that the allowance may be voted annually or monthly as the council from time to time determine.”
G. That the Stamp Act be amended so as to levy the same amount of stamp duty on an agreement under seal as if the agreement was under hand.
7. That the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909, be amended so as to give the local authorities power to convert their loans to another term should they so desire.
8. That subsection 1 of section 7, Dog Registration Act, 1903, bo amended so as to make it obligatory for the owner of a dog to register with the lopal authority in whose district such owner resides. 9. That the Counties Act bo amended so as to give the local authority power to make a by-law making n compulsory to have the rear wheels of a four-wheeled vehicle wider by the width of the tyres than the front wheels, so that the rear wheels v mild travel immediately on the outside of the front wheels.
