SMUGGLER FINED. (Pci- Press Association.) Dunedin, July 28. At the Police Court this morning David Conbrough was fined £l2 and costs (7s), three times the value of the four whips brought ashore without paying duty, from the steamer Crari. STATE FARM FOR GISBORNE. Gisborne, July 28. The Chamber of Commerce lias decided to communicate with the Department of Agriculture with a view to getting information re the establishment of a State experimental farm in this district.
IRISH ENVOYS. Wellington, July 28. The Irish envoys left for Sydney by the Manuka to-night. Several hundred persons were at the wharf, and gave the visitors a splendid send-off, singing national songs and cheering. EAST COAST RAILWAYS. Gisborne, July 28 At a quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day the following resolution was passed: “That this Chamber will gladly co-op vato with the Napier Chamber in urging the commencement of the GisborneNnpier railway, on the condition that the Napier Chamber wil join in the efforts to get the line commenced simultaneously at both ends.
