WELLINGTON'S NEW THEATRE.
(Tf>r Press Association.) Wellington, July 26. The directors of the Wellington Opera House Company have secured the option to purchase a portion of Mr. T. (1. McCarthy’s valuable section in Mai mors Street, in the vicinity of the-’ Royal Oak Hotel, and will shortly ask the shareholders’ sanction to increase tlie capital to 670,000 lor the purpose of ■ erecting a theatre to seat 1000' people; The directors have consulted the Hon. Mr. Pitt, of Melbourne, who has designed several •large theatres in Australia, with reference to a design- for the proposed new Opera House. An effort will be made to open the theatre next year on expirylof J. C. Williamson’s lease ol the present Opera House. The estimate of the directors’ venture will involve the expenditure of about £BO,OOO,
