“RAGGING.”
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, July 2G. A youth named Smith was admitted to the hospital from the Newmarket workshops, suffering from the effects of a blow on the, head with a bar of iron weighing five of six pounds. The affair occurred during the absence of the foreman, and has .given me to talk of “ragging” in the workshops. This was discussed - last session in Parliament, but- pending a depart mental enquiry Smith and all concerned decline to make any statements beyond the fact that during a skirmish with waste an iron bar was thrown, and struck! Smith on the, forehead. The officials- assert that “ragging” has practically! bpen stamped out.
