ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) Hastings, July 24. At an inquest on Charles William Timms, killed on Saturday night, tho verdict was “that at the time of the | accident Timms was lying close alongside tHe railway track under the influence of liquor, and no blame is attachable to any of the railway officials.” By a strange coincidence the first man to reach the body after the accident was deceased’s brother, who expected to pick up a stranger. Wellington, July 24. A boy named Charles Clark narrowly dscapsd being electrocuted in Northland road early this morning through his legs becoming entangled in a wire which had been blown away from a telephone polo across the electric tram wires. A passer-by kicked the live wire away and carried the boy to a house ,where lie was revived. Clark’s clothes were burned through, and tho flesh scorched. He is suffering from shock. Auckland, July 24. Albert Wolmer, a sawmill hand, was killed at Maringa on Saturday. It is believed he was run over by a truck. Auckland, July 24. • The danger of small boys carrying pea-rides was again exemplified this afternoon. A boy named Arthur E. Ashcroft and a companion were playing with a rifle at Penrose, when the charge accidentally went off, and the * bullet entered tho side of Ashcroft’s body. Though the lad’s condition is serious, the accident is not expected to prove fatal.
Wellington, July 24. Edward Colton, an old age pensioner, aged 79, walked over the edge of Rona Bat 7 wharf to-night and was drowned. July 24. Mrs Elizabeth Brodie, aged (id, was found lying dead on a hearth rug before a gas lire in her homo this morning. Tho' evidence showed that she had been for some time in a low mental condition. There were extensive burns on her body, caused by the heat from the gas fire. The ver-lmt was that death was due to shock, from burns, aggravated by weak slate of health, and that the evidome pointed to the burns having been reemved accidentally.
