AMERICAN MEAT TRUST.
AUSTRALIAN OPERATIONS. (Received 20, 9.15 a.m.) Sydney, July 20. Mr. Treflo (honorary Minister, assisting Agriculture), in a speech, referring to the Meat Trust, said there were shipments already on the water for England belonging to the Trust which had forty millions at its back. In spite of every statement to the opposite, he knew that a great American meat trust was at work in their midst. He intended the trust to know that they wore wide awake, and would take such steps as would enable them to snap their fingers at any trust. Besides the shipments made, large quantities of meat were; secured in' Sydney. The Government was aware that no stone was being left unturned to prepare the way for a solid base for the operations oi tuo trust in Australia, particularly in Sydnev. He bad uiucn information •which' he could not now use without prejudicing the iutefiests of the men the Government wished to protect. The Government was steadily preparing to meet the situation, and was taking steps for preventing any cumin nc. preying upon producers. A Royal Commission would, deal with the operations of the trust.
