The Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce unis’afternoon considered the p.oyosal of the \Vollington Chamber tuat Wellington should be made the distributing port for tlio Suez mail, the proposal being that the mail should arrive at Wellington from Sydney on Friday morning and be forthwith distributed throughout the .Dominion. On the motion of the president (Mr Loo Myers), it was unanimously resolved to approve of the proposal provided that it does not interfere with the present weekly service between Auckland and Sydney. Wellington, July 14. Tiie Representation Commission to arrange the electoral boundaries of New Zealand in consequence of population cluing -s at. shown by the recent census, wi!> meet in Wellington next Tuesday. The scarcity of butter, which has resulted in a considerable advance in price on tlr local market recently, is becoming nunc stringent, the supply not being equal to tho demand. Butter merchant'' to-day notified a further advance of Id per lb. for butter in lb. pats, imiking the present price Is 3RI wholesale. Although abnormal rates uv- now being paid to farmers for such small supplies of but-tor-fat as are obtainable, xhe heavy cost of production leaves little margin, even • n the present prices. Toe drought of the autumn is approximated to have caused the loss of £350,000.
