(For Press Association.) Melson, -inly 12. The Hon. 11. McKenzie, Minister for Public Works, del ire red a political address at Wakefield to-night, in reply to the speeches of Mr Massey and other Oppositionists. Ko dealt at length with taxation, finance and borrowing, mainly on the lines oi snoeeh.es by Sir James Carroll. He road a return prepared by the Customs Department showing that remissions of taxation totalling £5,322,018 had been made during the twenty years ol the Liberal regime. He dealt exhaustively with the public works policy. A vote of thanks and confidence was accorded the speaker. Chrstchurch, July 12. Air Massey informed a reporter today that ho would not bo able to return to Christchurch to speak until after the session started. He was speaking in Auckland next wee!:, and, if ho could manage it, in four other places before the House met. He added that the Reform League in Christchurch would be able to announce the candidates for the city and suburban seats within the next week or two.
