o EVIDENCE BEFORE THE COMMISSION. By EleoLM Telegraph.—Copyright. United Press Association. Sydney, July 11. All agreed that Australians were better workmen than the imported article. At the same time all were in favour of the immigration policy. LABOUR DEPARTMENT’S REPORT. Sydney, -Jul;> 11. The annual report of the Labour Dopartmen shows 4533 factories wore registered, employing 79,972 hands, an increase during the year of 274 factories and 4814 hands. The increase would have been much greater if labour had been available to meet the demand. Only 5.9 per cent of employees wore under sixteen years of ago. Never before was there such a shortage of skilled labour. The country districts’ reports arc as favourable as the cities.
