AUCKLAND HOSPITAL BOARD.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, July 5. ' Ai the meeting of the Hospital Board a letter was road from Dr Valinfino in regard to the selection by the Board of Miss Griffiths, of Dunedin, as lady superintendent, stating that the Department did not consider the host selection had been made among the candidates, and the Minister could not approve it. Mr Neherney said Miss Griffiths was appointed by a majority of eight to two after careful consideration of the testimonials of six candidates, yet immediately after the selection was announced Miss McLean came to Auckland and interviewed members of the Board, urging them to appoint another candidate with longer experience as a charge nurse. It was further stated that Miss McLean said she was acting under instructions from Dr Yalintino. The chairman stated that the Minister had the power of veto over the appointment for twenty-one days only. The Board resolved that Miss Griffiths be appointed to the position at the expiration of twenty-one days (Friday next) from the date of her nomination by the Board.
