AN ELTHAM CASE. (Per' Press Association.) Eltham, July 5. A case possessing some peculiar features was heard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. A young man named George Hairy dairy was charged with carnally knowing a girl under 10 years. Accused and the girl had been previously engaged, and got married subsequent to the commission of the alleged offence. Counsel for the accused urged that owing to the marriage further prosecution would lie pointless. The prosecution being independent of the girl’s evidence, and not on all-four with other prosecutions which, were withdrawn through subsequent marriage barring, the girl’s evidence, the Magistrate decided to commit accused to the Supreme Court, hail being allowed, accused in £SO and two sureties of £IOO each. THEFT OF BICYCLES. Napier, July 5. At the Supreme Court at the second trial of F. 0. Skelton in connection with a charge of theft of bicycles the jury again failed to agree. man employed as a draper’s assistant, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with damaging plate-glass windows in a number ot shops in Cuba Street, to the extent of £155, by scratching them with a diamond ring. Accused was arrested late at night a few days ago by a constable? and a night-watchman wno had been watching him. A diamond ring was found in his pocket. Evans was committed for trial, bail self £BO and two sureties of ,£4O each. Two tologracph messenger boys were committed to the .Supreme Court for sentence for tlie? theft of moneys from letters they had opened at the Te Aro Post Office. The amount stolen amounted to £5 ss. and has since been refunded. The boys were allowed bail of £2O each.
