TRAIN SERVICES.

tr:..: v. - • ■ NEW PLYMOUTH’S REQUEST. The Town Clerk stated at las, night’s meeting of the Borough Con;., cii that ho hud been approached b,, the statioriiaaster in reference to the recpaest of the New Plymouth Chamber of Commerce to have the morning north train arrive in Now Plymouth before 9.30 a.in. 'This would mean that the train would have to leave Hawera at 6 a.ni. and Stratford at 7.13 a.m., and the 'Toko train would have to leave To Worn at 5:25 a.m. The statioimiaste; s from Hawera up had boon requested to ascertain public opinion on the matter; and lie (the Clorir) had promised to put the matter before the Cohncil. Cr. Paget moved that the railway authorities bo informed that the Council is of opinion that the proponed change would be extremely inconvenient to Stratford district,* and trusts that no alteration will bo made; the authorities also to be asked to arrange for the Toko train to arrive in, Stratford earlier than 2.40 p.m. Cr. King: The train lias not time to go out and get back earlier. Cr. Paget said it could be done—the cream could be picked up just the same. - Cr. King said'.’ he would second the motion so far as the first clause was concerned. He understood that the district railway engineer had said that ho would never agree to altering the time of the Toko train. Cr. Paget: Very, well, I will leave out the second part of the motion. Cr. King said the proposed change in the morning train would be of very little uso to New Plymouth. But it would be a good idea to have the 4.10 p.m. train from Now Plymouth made to leave later. At present if a Stratford man .waited ,to do business in New Plymouth he had to keep going all the time he was there. Cr. ’Ward said there should be some concern for the comfort of travellers on the Toko train. At present lie believed there were no foot-warm-ers carried. Cr. Paget’s motion was carried.
