ELECTORAL CENSUS.
TO BE TAKEN NEXT SUNDAY
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 3. In the four centres and some ol .he adjoining electorates, an electoral ■ensus for the purpose of compiling uid purging the Parliamentary rolls o he used "at the next general elecion will be taken on the night ol Sunday, July Bth, while in the coun,ry electorates, a house to house visitation will be made, commencing on Vlonday, July 10th. There is a difference in connection with the procedure to be adopted in the city and aiburban electorates of the four chief centres of population on the one hand, :bd the country electorates on the other. hi the city electorates a schedule viil bo placed in every household to ;e Idled up by the occupier or person u charge of the dwelling, with particulars respecting all persons ot the ige of 21 years and upwards who slept w abode therein on the night of Sunday, July 9th, together with those travelling or out of work during that -light (and not included in any other lectoral schedule), who return to the dwelling on Monday, July 10th. The schedules will* be called for by the eu•olment officer on July 10t!i, or as soon as practicable. Electors wib ie required to have the answers written in their proper columns and the documents duly signed.
Any person Aviuully- refusing _ or rogl acting to fill up, sign and deliver the schedule, or to answer the necessary enquiries which the enrolment officers are authorised and required to make, is liable to a lino of £5. In the thickly populated parts ol the-country electorates a house to house visitation will be made by the enrolment officers, who will only reoairo to make one visit. Each officer will carry a held hook in which ho will enter the name of each adult resident. He will also carry a copy of the electoral roll to verify existing registration, and address. New enrolments will be effected on the spot by tho enrolment officer wherever possible, and forms of claim lor enrolment with free envelopes addressed to the Registrar for the district, will 1, 0 left for nncnrollod persons absent from the household at the time ol the enrolment officer’s visit, with instructions that the claims must ho completed and posted to the Registrar wild tout delay. , ,
It is not proposed to extend the house to house visitation to sparsely settled and remote parts of country electorates. Such localities, however, will ho provided for by depositing a copy of the roll, together with a supply' of enrolment forms, at the nearest post or telegraph office, where a notice will be exhibited drawing attention to the facilities given for enrolment. In all such places postmasters will also assist the Registrar of electors to have all qualified persons enrolled, also to purge from the , oil the names of electors who have left .the district since the last compilation.
