The Chamber of Commerce decided to-night to support the \\ olliugton Chamber of Commerce in urging that Wellington be the distributing centre for the Suez mail. NEXT CHESS TOURNEY. Wellington, July 3. The New Zealand Chess Association decided to-night to hold the next championships at Napier at Christmas time. HOME RULE DELEGATES. Dunedin, July 3. The Home Rule delegates, Messrs Redmond, Hazleton and Donovan, addressed a meeting in the Garrison Hall to-night. There was a largo attendance, and the speakers received a good Hearing. 3no sum of £440 .was subscribed towards the Home Rule funds. DEAR BUTTER. Invercargill, July 3. The price of butter (wholesale) has been raised as from to-day from Is 2d to Is 3d i retail, Is 4d to Is sd. PATRIOTIC DEMONSTRATION. Palmerston North, July 3. The Overseas Club, which, with the Navy League, conducted a highly successful patriotic demonstration in the Municipal Opera House on Coronation night, resolved to-night to make it an annual affair on Empire Day. A CONSUL HONOURED. Wanganui, July 3. It is fifty years ago to-day since Herr F. A. Krull, of Wanganui, was appointed German Consul in New Zealand, and he is the recipient of many congratulatory telegrams and letters, including messages from Sir James Carroll, on behalf of the Government, uid from the foreign consuls in Wellington and other places. Hen - Krull nas now sent in his resignation, feeling that his ago entitles him to resign and retire. The German Government has recognised his long services by granting him the Order of die Crown, and also the Order of the Red Eagle, and this morning he received a letter stating that His Imperial (German) Majesty had granted aim a higher Order of the Crown, with the number 50, which order is liratod to the issuo of fifty. A dinner will be gvien Herr Krull by, the Foreign Consuls in Wellington on Thursday. i
• SHEFFIELD CHOIR. Christchurch, July 3. The Sheffield Choir opened to-night n Christchurch to a house of 3500 ,n King Edward barracks. There was a slight delay in commencing, nving to the great crush of reserved seat holders about tho entrance set ipart for them, but eventually all got in. The clioir and Dr Coward, •onductor, received a great reception. The orchestra did splendid work, and the choir gave proof that die forewords concerning it were ruthful. Dr Coward’s conducting ras a revelation. The solo parts vore taken by Miss Alice Heely, and Messrs Henry Turnpenny and Robert Hilaries worth. The booking is very xeavy for to-morrow night’s concert.
