THE MORNING NORTH TRAIN.

o PROPOSED EARLIER RUNNING. RAWER A OBJECTS. At the meeting of the Hawera Borugli Council on Thursday evening a letter was received from Mr C. F. Rill, Hawera stationmaster, who wrote saying that the Railway Department had received a request, to nave the hour of the departure of the morning train to New Plymouth altered to six o’clock, and asking for the views of tile Council on the proposal. The Deputy-Mayor considered that the proposed change would greatly inconvenience the residents of the borough and the surrounding district. Gr Campbell moved that the letter lie on the table. He said it was not the business of the Council to interfere with the proposal. The Minister and the heads of, the Department knew host as to what was required. The Council had no proof that the change would he inconvenient to residents and settlers of the district. Cr Morris seconded the motion and endorsed the views of Cr Campbell. It was a commercial proposition and really did not affect the Council. Cr Reid thought it would be better if the proposed change were considered by a combined meeting of the local bodies interested and if such a meeting came to the conclusion that the alteration would not he in the in terests of the district then a resolution on the matter coming from such a meeting would undoubtedly carry more weight than would! a resolution from each separate body. The Deputy-Mayor, moved an amendment, that in the opinion of the Hawera Borough Council the proposed, alteration of the departure of the morning train from 7.20 to 6 o’clock- would greatly) inconvenience the residents of the bprough and the sott|e)s of the surrounding district. This, was seconded ,by Cr Baker and, carried. • ,j , f ; ,
