NORTHERN UNION CAME. NEW SOUTH WALES v. NEW ZEALAND. By Electric Telegraph,—-Copyright. United Press Association. Sydney, Juno 22. The match under Northern Union rules between New South Wales and New Zealand took place to-day. Now Zealand kicked off before an attendance of 50,000, and immediately pressed, Francis heading a dribbling rush on the Now South Wales goal. Now Zealand forwards started well, but they were soon outclassed by their smaller and more skilful opponents. From scraggy play at New South Wales’ twenty-five, Messenger centred to Frawloy, who scored. Messenger added the extra points. Asher, by a brilliant run, started a good rush, but Francis was downed on the line. New South Wales forwards worked back from the ruck, and Noble fell across. Messenger failed with the kick. Shortly after, Messenger landed a beautiful goal from half-way. From this until half-time the local backs took possession, Messenger, Frawley and Broomham each scoring a try, Francis kicked a penalty goal for New Zealand. At half-time the scores read New South Wales 19, New Zealand 2.
From the kick-off, Morse passed to Francis, who fell across, but he failed to goal. New South Wales 19, Now Zealand 5. From play in jSouth Wales’ twenty-live, Woodward kicked a penalty goal. New South Wales 19, New Zealand 7. Messenger, from a passing rush, scored. Frawley failed to goal. Now Zealand forwards, headed by Francis, transferred play to New South Wales’ twenty-live, where Woodward dodged across, but failed to goal. Now South Wales 2i, Ngav Zealand 10. The New South, Wales men were playing a better game in every department. M’Klvau and Cann each scored a try, Messenger converting the two. The final scores were: Now South Wales 35, Now Zealand 10.

At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Referees’ Association tonight, Mr. W. Monckton was re-olcct-ed president, and Mr. !i. Yeoman reelected hon. secretary and treasurer. The annual report stated that tiie following six associations wore affiliated: Wellington, Auckland, Otago*, Canterbury, Wanganui, and Southland. 'The death occurred at the New Plymouth Hospital on Thursday of Mr. James Way, aged 39 ycais. The Star and Tukapa Football Clubs have decided to play tlio Dan. O’Brien Shield match on Thursday, 29th inst., as a benefit to the widow and children of late Mr. Way, who had been intimately associated with football rlor many years.
