WAITARA-MOKAU RAILWAY.

MEETING AT URENUI. A well-attended and representative meeting was held at tlronui on Tuesday evening to consider the extension of the railway line north *of Waitara. Mr. C'. if. Wilson presided’. Tie show-l-ed how a railway line would ease the traffic on the main road, and ramarkcd how short of funds the Clifton County Council were. Mr. G. Pope referred to the advantage the land would derive from opening up the various districts and possibly the Mohan. He proposed the following resolution, which was seconded by Mr. Pigott and carried unanimously:— “That, owing to the rapid growth of Northern Taranaki; consequent upon opening up the Mohan and other large estates, this public meeting of Urenui residents respectfully desires to point out to the Minister of Public Works the immediate need of railway communication between Waitara and Mohan, and earnestly urge that the first extension northwards be expeditiously proceeded with.” \ arious speakers addressed the meeting on the subject. At tne instance of Mr. Pigott it was decided that a committee bo formed and a delegate appointed to confer with other centres of the district. Tine following committee were then appointed:—Messrs. C. Rowe, 11. H. Pigott, G. H. Pope, G. J. Wilson, ,1. Gloeson, J. Bethune, H. Halcombc, E. Butler, L. Rattenbnry, and R. Greenwich. A hearty vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting. The committee mot after the meeting, and Mr. G. Pope was appointed lion, secretary, and instructed to forward a copy of the resolution passed at the meeting to the various centres interested in the extension of the railway, and suggesting the formation of a railway league to further the matter.
