Halligan) proceeded at the Magistrate's oourt this morning against Michael J’iNoill, butcher, lauiaicama, for having on May 2 7tn allowed five pigs to wander wiiniu fifty yards of Jiis licensed slaughterhouse, contrary to section 51, sub-section C of the Slaughtering and Inspection Act. A line of IPs, with costs Vs, was inflicted. In the judgment summons case J. Jenson v. . Edwards at the Magistrate's. Court this morning defendant .ailed in appear, and he was ordered to pay 2! .is id forthwith, in default seven days’ imprisonment. F. .smith, £5 IBs Pd, costs £1 Os Pd, Recently when the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. McKenzie; was on a visit to this district Mr •J. B .Iline, member for Stratford, introduced a deputation to him at Pohokura from tne sawmills, requesting that the Public Works Department would permit the institution of a suitable passenger service from the JJrinile siding to To Worn. Air C. J. McKenzie, District Engineer, lias received the .Minister’s authority to meet, the settlers’ wishes and has arranged a time-table for a connecting service to commence to-morrow. Greymonth, June 16. Thomas Old, aged -10, was kdlcd by a fail of coal in tlio Blackball ndno yesterday. His mate narrowly escaped. The accident was caused through a prop falling immediately over where they wore working.
