Mr. P. H. Wellington occupied the chair. During the evening several musical items and rc- - citations were contributed by local friends and the school cnildron. Speeches were delivered by Messrs G. Jones, J. Oago, R. Witt, H. Wheller, and W. J. Wellington, all -rbf whom spoke in most felicitous terms of the splendid neighbourly qualities of all the guests. Special mention was also made of the cheerful and indefatigable labours of Mr and Mrs Fischer in connection with church work and all other social functions. Much regret was also expressed by tho speakers at losing such sterling friends and settlors. Opgort.unity was taken to present Mrs opk with an easy chair and Mr and Mrs Fischer with a silver-plated teapot, as tokens of esteem. The presentations were made by Messrs H. Wheller and W. J. Wellington respectively. Mr. W. Moore replied on behalf of Mrs Cook, and Mr Fischer on behalf of Mrs Fischer and himself. At the conclusion of the programme, after tho binging of the hymn, “God bo with you till we meet again,” and the pronouncing of tho Benediction, .a sumptuous supper was provided by the ladies, a table being laid specially for tho departing guests. The inner man having boon replenished to the full, a little talk indulged in, and a few hearty handgrips exchanged, we wended our way homeward wondering whether the future settlors of this district will he as noble and true as those just departing. Let us hope so.
