NEW WARD OPENED. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Juno 15. The Hon. G, Few Ids opened the children’s and women’s ward at the Christchurch Hospital to-day. ■'-'The l building cost nearly £20,000,’ wliereb.!' £-1586 was collected by ladies. In the course of his speech, the Minister said they must continue the warfare against consumption with steadfastness and pertinacity, conscious that in the long run they would be able to severely “scotch” if not kill this relentless foe of mankind. Ho was glad to note the distinct evidence that the death rate from consumption gave them every encouragement to pursue the campaign. Ho expressed pleasure at the cheerful manner in which the hospital boards of the Dominion were facing the now responsibilities under the now Act, and urged the necessity of hasp hospitals having subsidiary institutions. Ho also referred to the necessity for the Christchurch hospital district having the advantage of the services of a skilled bacteriologist.
