Betts’ Sandford boardinghouse, a two-storeyed building containing 23 rooms, and Sid. Amor’s stables. Practically nothing was saved in tbo boardinghouse as it was soon enveloped in flames. Eleven boareres escaped with few belongings. Plant at the stables was rescued. Messrs Lloyd and Co.’s building on the opposite side of the street was badly burnt and the stock damaged to the extent of £4OO. There was no water in the reservoir and the firemen worked under great difficulties. The chemical engines saved Lloyd’s premises. Insurances arc: Boardinghouse,. £BOO on contents and £3OO, both in the Atlas office. Amor’s stables, £IOO in Commercial Union. Lloyd’s stock (estimat'd to he damaged to the extent of £500) is covered in several offices.
