AUCKLAND’S EXI’ERI ENGE. {Per Press Association.) Auckland, June 10. A torrential downpour of rain this morning Hooded Queen Street, water flowing over the kerbs up to the building line. Many places were Hooded, some as much as four feet. A good deal of damage was done to goods below the street level in various shops. Nearly all the hotels and restaurants in the lower part ol the city suffered severely. There were mmiorons instances of lires being extinguished, cooks working knee-deep in water at various places, including fully a dozen loading hotels, preparing the midday meal. The downpour lusted about an hour and was followed by a steady drizzle. The Government Meteorologist tel—graphed tin’s afternoon:— Northerly strong winds to gale probable, hut there are indications for a change to southerly in about 315 hours. Expect uns. tiled , and cloudy weather. Very iasivv rain m.uv be expected, with, ■rivers rising. Uk-s.V tail, hut rise after 21 hours, and weather probably much colder.
