SHIPPING REGULATIONS.
FOR PROTECTING LIFE AND PROPERTY. (Per Pr'ws Association.) • Wellington, Last Night. The following regulations for the protection of life and property, on vessels appear in" to-night’s Gazette:—Wlff-n cargo is being handled oil'hoard a vessel the master shall see that the following tilings are done: All hatch beams shall he moved clear of the hatchway; the deck approaches to the hatch ladders shall he kept clear of all obstructions; all pipes which are laid above the surface of the deck shall he properly covered up. so as not to be an obstruction or impediment to the men working on deck; the straps of all baskets used in working cargo shall be -thoroughly examined at least once a month and ro-strouped when necessary, and entry of such examination shall bo made in the official log iu the case of vessels on which such log is kept; fill cargo derricks and gear gear shall bo kept in proper order; a supply of pure drinking water shall be provided and kept in a proper receptacle for the use of the men engaged in working the cargo; all persons having control of Imlaulic cranes which are usVal in working cargo on vessels shall see that the levers have pins in proper workin.. order; any person who commits a breach)of either of the above regulations is liable to a line not exceeding £IOO.
