THE TERRITORIALS.
ATTITUDE OF QUAKERS. Members ! of-the 1 Society of' Fi iendtr in New Zealand will claim exemption from military service and training. Provision is made in the Defence Act that no person, whose religion forbids him to do so, shall lie required to bear arms or undergo military training. For ‘2OO years the Society of Friends has maintained its testimony against war, and Quaker organisations in New Zealand are advising those who have conscientious objections to any military service to state their position when registering each son liable to undergo the compulsory period of training. The Auckland meeting of Fi lends has adopted the following form of protoest.“ln signing this paper under protest, I wish to lodge my conscientious objection to any service partaking of a military nature, believing that in submitting to military commands, 1 am acquiescing in the proposed deliberate taking of human life, but I am ready to render any equivalent, service of a civil nature.”
