EPIDEMIC OF MEASLES.
ATTACK ISLANDERS. HEAVY MORTALITY. Sydney, May 30. The Island steamer brings news of a disastrous epidemic of measles and dysentry among the natives of Rotumab Island, which has been raging for two months. Some of the villages have been almost decimated. It is estimated that the population has been reduced from 2400 to barely 1900. The bulk of the fatal cases are amongst the young and strong population, the elderly largely escaping.
