A POPULAR PRESIDENT. Christchurch, Last Night. Air. P. Selig, president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, who is about to leave on a health trip to Sydney, has been presented with a purse of 100 sovereigns from the trotting clubs throughout New Zealand and also those racing clubs which include trotting events in their programmes. The Hon. 0. Louisson (president of the Now Zealand Metropolitan Club), who made, the presentation, said Air. Selig had been president of the South Island Trotting Association for two years and, president of the New Zealand, Trotting,Association over since its formation in 1899. That record spoke volumes for one who occupied such a responsible position, where lie was bound to be subject to a great (leal of criticism. Besides that, Air. Selig had been president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference for four years in succession, so that he had been able to obtain and retain the confidence of members.
