A meeting of creditors in the estate of Joseph Sharroek n v as hoicl at the office of the Deputy-Official Assignee (Mr, A. Golem in) > i\erday morning. Mr. Spence appeared lor Umkrunt. Mr. Wake represented Mr. Fnee. Mi. Gook was the only creditor posent in person. The bankrupt put :n ihc folloni ig .vritten statement; —
Up till about live years ago I was getting on very well, and through accidents I lost bullocks and horses. I ,vas unable to obtain men to work lor me. Therefore I had to throw up the contract. Then I took ill, and when L recovered from my illness I was advised to go to Auckland. I wont to Auckland and get work. From the ivork I obtained I was only able to earn a living. I stopped in Auckland for about two years, and as things were getting- worse I came back to Stratford, thinking 1 might be able to do better. I was unable to do any better down here, and began getting into debt. My brother took a contract from Derby Eros., and I was to work for him. Wo were just getdng the contract well under way vJ en Derby Bros, closed down, . v .ng my mother a. good sum of money, vhich ie was unable to get from them. Through this contract I -lost the chance of getting another contract in the summer. My creditors then started to press me, and as I had no money To pay them, I : mild do nothing else but file. As it was necessary before any business conld be done that three creditors be present or represented, it vas decided to adjourn die -j.tiug for a week.
