Gloss on 1500 visitors arrived in town from Dunedin and surrounding districts, and a grand procession was taken part in by 233 pioneers of ISGI and subsequent years. Of tliis number about 230 wore pioneers of ISill, wjlio have come together from all parts of Xcw Zealand, and as far distant as Victoria. Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Mines, was present, and addressed a gathering of about. 2500 people. Speeches were also delivered - by Mr. dames Robertson (Mayor of Lawrence) and the organiser of the movement, members of Parliament. the Mayor of Dunedin, and others. The celebrations, which have opened most auspieiouslyj are to continue throughout tne week.
