MAORIS TO REGISTER
o No Exemptions. AVe arc asked to correct a misapprehension that appears to exist in connection with registration under tho Defence Acts, whereby some who are within tho age of liability consider they need not register, owing to various reasons, such as distance from town or headquarters,physical infirmities, religions scruples, etc., and he wishes us to impress upon our readers that there are absolutely no exemptions to registration. Tho proclamation distinctly states that “every male inhabitant who on the Ist March, 1911, nad attained the ago of I I years or upwards, hut had not attained the age of 21 years.” is required to register. This, of course, includes Maoris as well as Europeans. There is undoubtedly an impression abroad that the payment of ,£o indicted as a penalty for non-registration disposes of any further liability regarding military training, hut this is in no sense lessened by the payment of the line. It is, of course, certain that some will ho exempted from military training for various reasons, chiefly physical unfitness, hut they all must register, and before 2nd Juno.
