DAIRY EMPLOYEES AND ARBITRATION.
TAI PORT AN T AIA NIFESTO. The following is tlio text of a letter forwarded by the \secrctary of tlio Taranaki Hairy i'aci.nms IDnploVees’ Union to tlio* secretary of the Taranaki Dairying and Farming Union .f Employers, in reply to a communication from tlio latter body conveying its decision not to meet represeuttativos of the Workers’ Union 01 conference for the purpose of endeavouring to arrive at amicable settlement of matters in dispute till such time as tho Workers’ Union had re-registered itself under tho Arbitration Act:—“ We think it is greatly to ho regretted that your union, in coming to this decision, should have allowed itself to lie guided, as in the past, by an outside organisation, i.c., tho New Zealand Employers’ Federation. Wo have always, held that it was owing to vour union being dominated by that body in October, 1.909, that the very unsatisfactory conditions at pres nit existing in tlio industry are in vogue. In your again handing ovoi iho tonduct of the dispute to the Federation and refusing to meet us in friendly conference wo arc reluctantly compelled to tho conclusion that your union is not desirous of arriving at an amicable understanding in regard to the matters in dispute, but is bent instead upon crushing our organisation out of existence. Against such tactics wo arc compelled to adopt measures which may seem drastic in order to defend ourselves. In the meantime wc wish to paint out to you that any disturbance that may take place in the industry will he entirely duo to your union’s refusal to accept tho proposal for a conference made by our union.
