SUCCESSFUL SPRING SHOW

Winton Horticultural Society

Splendid entries were received for the Winton and District Society’s spring show, which was held on Thursday Mr Peter Thomson, of Invercargill, judge of the cut flower sections, said that it was one of the best exhibitions of narcissi seen in Winton for many years. Mrs Peter Thomson, judge of the floral decorations, congratulated the exhibitors on their good taste and artistic arrangement of their displays. Mr A. McConachie judged the vegetable and photographic sections, and Mrs Brumby, of Waikiwi, judged the industrial section. Special mention was made by the judge of the children’s sections in cut flowers and decorated baskets. The following were the chief prizewinners:—Most points in floral decorations, Dr M. Gow; most points in industrial sections, Mrs Peter Thomson; most points in children’s sections, Margaret Kean; most points in show, Mrs Peter Thomson; most entries in show, Mrs F. Wright; champion bloom other than trumpet. Mrs W. Chrystal; champion Bloom of show, Mrs W. Chrystal; champion trumpet of show, Mrs W. Chrystal; most points in cut flowers, Mrs, J. D. Blyth; most points in vegetable section, Mr John Shaw; competition winners, dinner, Miss E. Woodword; breakfast, Mrs Marion Smith; cake, Mrs Peter Thomson.
