FARM VALUATION FIGURES

Procedure Criticized By Land Sales Chairman

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, October 5. “This is an absurd position, and it is ridiculous that these budgets concerning farm valuations are not exchanged between counsel and the Crown representative seven days before the hearing,” said the chairman of the Land Sales Committee (Mr E. J. Anderson), at the close of the hearing of a case which had lasted for six hours and a-half. “We have been sitting here all the afternoon and most of the evening,” he added, “listening to the figures in these budgets being challenged. I think that an exchange should be made before, the hearing, so that some sort of agreement can be reached.”

Two valuations for the applicant were £23,000 and £13,000, while the Crown valuer’s figures were £8444 and £B6lO. The property was a farm at Winsor Park, near Oamaru.
