(Special) WELLINGTON, October 4. Following is • the special forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office this evening for the period ending 5 p.m. tomorrow: — Pressure is high north of the Dominion, and there is a deep depression south of Tasmania. Moderate to fresh west or north-west winds. Weather fair to cloudy, and cold.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was cold and cloudy, with a moderate southerly wind. The weather at one o’clock this morning was cold, calm and clear. Ihe barometer reading was 29.67 inches Tides.—iHigh water, Bluff, 1.30 a.m., 1.51 p.m.; Invercargill, 2.11 a.m., 2.32 p.m.; Riverton, 0.30 a.m., 12.51 p.m.; Oreti Beach, 0.39 a.m., 1 p.m. The Sun.— Rises 6.13 a.m., sets 6.59 p.m.
RAINFALL (From our observer at the airport, by courtesy of the Public Works Department).—For the 24 hours ended at 5 p.m. yesterday 18 points of rain were recorded.
