MORE BUILDING IN COUNTY
RETURNS FOR MONTH AND HALF-YEAR
A substantial increase in building activity, compared with September last year, is shown in the returns of the Southland County Council for last month. Forty-eight permits were issued compared with 35 in September 1944, the total value being £23,352 against £11,887. During the half-year ended September 30, 236 permits to a total value of £108,977 were issued, compared with 212 permits of a total value of £64,957 in the corresponding six months last year. Fifty-four permits were issued for new dwellings in the six months against 26 for the halfyear to September 30, 1944. The figures fox- September with those for the same period last year in brackets, are as follows: —
