BRITAIN’S NEW HOUSE OF COMMONS
Loudspeakers For Members (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, August 27. A total of 500 small loudspeakers, all concealed ard one serving each pair of members, wll be installed in the new House of Canmons, says the political correspondent of The Evening News. Work is beginning on the new House before Chrisanas and is expected to take three yexrs and a-half. The House will be air conditioned and the 8.8. C. is advising the architect on its acoustics. The House wll seat 437 members and about 500 others.
The architect, Mr Adrian Scott, revealed that the general decoratons will be more simpb and less ecclesiastical than the old House. Windows will be less church-life in shape. The walls will be dark <ak from Stratford-on-Avon, with ca-ving along the horizontal bands. Tlere will be no gilding, colouring or statuary. The seats and carpets will be plain green. It is expected that wotds for the members’ rooms will be ihported from the Dominions.
