FRUIT GROWERS
SALES TO CONSUMERS DISCUSSED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 10. Sales direct to the consumers were discussed by the fruit growers’ conference today. There appeared to be general, but not unanimous, agreement that sales to consumers should be allowed, but not so as to jeopardize the goodwill of the Internal Marketing Division. Finally a Marlborough remit was adopted that the Marketing Council make every endeavour to increase sales direct to the consumers. A Motueka remit that direct trade to the consumers be stringently controlled was lost by 21 votes to 14. The conference adopted a resolution taking strong exception to the reimposition by Auckland brokers of the receiving and delivery charge of Id a case, which was abolished three months ago by the Fruit Marketing Council.
