ROAD ACCIDENTS IN AUSTRALIA

.(Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 10. The total casualties in the Australian forces on all fronts in the first five years of the war were fewer than the number of persons killed or injured in road accidents in Australia for the same period. The Minister of Transport, Mr M. O’Sullivan, announced that the total Australian war casualties, including prisoners of war, was 8000. Persons killed or injured in road accidents totalled 100,000. Mr.O’Sullivan said that these figures were alarming, particularly as it was expected that there would be 5000 motor vehicles registered in New South • Wales alone in the next two or three years.
