The establishment of a seed testing station at Gore was mentioned by Dr E. He said that this should assist in the development, of the seed industry in Southland and should help to make the industry more stable. Small Cheese Factories

In view of the expected visit of Sir Francis Frazer to Southland to investigate the position of small cheese factories the Southland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union decided yesterday to recommend the factories concerned to prepare the necessary information for presentation to him. Sir Francis has been appointed by the Dairy Board to carry out this investigation. Afforestation Project

An afforestation project to be conducted by the Southland County Council was again mentioned by councillors at the meeting of the council yesterday. They favoured the adoption of such a project and the county clerk (Mr H. C. Gimblett) was instructed to inquire about the acquisition of suitable land in the Switzers district. If the land can be acquired it is possible that the council will consider planting up to 50,000 trees in the near future. Educational Course

Mention of the educational course for farmers to be held in Invercargill next week was made by Mr W. R. Harris at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. Mr Harris said that the course would be the first ever held in Southland and he expressed the hope that it would be well supported. Lincoln College lecturers would be in attendance and the course would be interesting and instructive.
