RESULTS OF SINGING COMPETITION

SOUTHLAND BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL The Southland Boys’ High School singing competitions, which are sponsored by the Old Boys’ Association, were held at the school recently. The judge, Mr A. Walmsley, commenting on the high standard of the singing, said that the work of the winners was unusually noteworthy. He referred to the many musical and cultural opportunities available to the students of the school and praised the high standard achieved by the school choir in its recent performances. He paid a tribute to the rector, Dr G. H. Uttley, for his practical interest in the musical progress of the boys and to the director of music, Mr Kennedy Black, for his enthusiasm and sound musicianship. The results were as follows:— Unbroken Voices.— Hinton (“Where ere you Walk”) 1, Mclntosh (“On Wings of Song”) 2, Petrie (“Orange Blossoms”) 3. Senior Section. —Hardie (“Tortured and Torn”) 1, Lange (King Charles) 2, Edmonston (“Wanderer’s Song”) 3.
