The Hon. Adam Hamilton was a through passengei’ for Wellington by the express yesterday morning.
Mr Leslie Lefeaux, the former governor- of the Reserve Bank, arrived in Invercargill by the express last evening. Mr Lefeaux will deliver an address this evening at a meeting ax-ranged by the Invercargill Chambex- of Commerce.
Mr F. A. Robins, chief postmaster- at Invercargill, will begin his annual leave of four weeks on Friday. During his absence, he will be relieved by the postmaster at Gore, Mx- H. V. Ward. The position of postmaster at Gore during this period will be filled by Mr P. G. Waderail, inspectoi- of the General Post Office, who has his headquarters at Dunedin. The Chief Electrical Engineer of the Public Works Mi- F. T. M. Kissel, who is indisposed, is expected to return to his duties within a few weeks. During his absence Mx- A. Cowen is acting Electricity Controller. (P.A.)
Captain T. Church was appointed third pilot on the Bluff Harbour Board’s pilot staff at the meeting of the board yesterday. At a meeting in Wellington of the Council of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation Mr lan Matheson (Wellington) resigned from the presidency because of business reasons. Mr W. J. Truscott (Auckland) was elected acting president until the next annual conference. The council received the resignation with regret, but Mr Matheson will continue as a member of the council as immediate past president. (P.A.)
The City Council has decided to support • the nomination of Mr H. C. Gimblett as one of the two representatives of the City Council, 1 the South Invercargill Borough Council and the Southland County Council on the board of managers of the Southland Technical College. Mr Gimblett, whose three year term has just expired was recently nominated again by the Southland County Council. Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs J. D. Campbell that their son, Pilot Officer I. L. Campbell, who is serving in the Pacific zone, has been promoted to the tank of flying officer.
Messrs W. K. Cameron, who is the Government nominee on the Bluff Harbour Board to replace the late Mr J. Cameron, and T. M. Finnerty, Bluff borough representative to replace the late Mr W. B. Dixon, were welcomed at the board table yesterday. A welcome to Cr R. T. Parsons, chairman of the Works Committee, after an absence from council meetings because of illness, was extended by the Mayor, Mr A. Wachner, at the meeting of the City Council last night. The assistant superintendent of the city reserves, Mr W. Stapleton, is at present on annual leave. A motion of sympathy with the relations of the late Mr A. Geddes, who was an employee of the City Council from 1907 to 1934, was carried at the meeting of the council last night. Mr L. F. Moller was the guest speaker at the weekly luncheon of the Invercargill Rotary Club yesterday. Other visitors were Messrs W. Brmgans (Alexandra), F. C. Spratt and H. W. Milner (Wellington). Guests at the Grand Hotel include Mr Justice Smith, Messrs A. G. Smith, G Hyde, B. Jessep, A. B. Thomson, M. Btxtcher, J. Willis, L. Lefeaux, W. A. V/right, G. Wills, Mr and Mrs O’Leary, Mesdam.es O. B. Worboys, B. F. Logie (Wellington) and Messrs J. P. Ruth and J. C. Shand (Dunedin).
