SUPPLIES FROM BRITAIN
RAPID RESTORATION NOT EXPECTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 22. Importers should not expect very rapid restoration of full supplies from Great Britain, though the reorganization of industry was well under way, Mr G. W. Clinkard, London representative of the New Zealand Ministry of Supply, told members of the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association; Mr F. R. Picot, Commissioner of Supply, who supplemented Mr Clinkard’s remarks, said that the supply position was definitely improving, and that by the end of the year they could look forward to an increasing flow of goods that had been needed. Against that, of course, they had to remember that there was a vast international shortage and demands from such organizations as UNRRA and from the Netherlands East Indies and the Colonial Office would be tremendous. Mr Pitot paid a tribute to Britain’s treatment of New Zealand. “In the supply of some things,” he said, “we have had a wonderful spin, and anyone who questions Britain’s intentions to fulfil her obligations does not know what he •is talking about. As far as we are concerned, she has done all that has been possible.”
