IMPORT CONTROL POLICY
EFFECT ON ECONOMY OF DOMINION (PA..) WELLINGTON, May 23. ’ “This council is of the opinion that the statement by Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, is enlightening and most timely. •It substantially supports the evidence in possession or the association,” says a statement issued by the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association, referring to Mr Holland’s comment on British objections to New Zealand’s import control policy. < “Moreover, the Press Association report of Mr Holland’s statement tends to conflict with the assurances given to the people of the Dominion on March 28 by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sullivan, and indicates to the association that the people of Great Britain are deeply concerned- with the set-up as envisaged by the Government of New Zealand to perpetuate its import control policy. “The association is satisfied that the consuming public of this Dominion must become more conscious of the fact that the prosperity of New Zealand is directly proportional ’to the ability of New Zealand’s farmers to-sell their produce to Great Britain, and, conversely, the ability of the people of Great Britain to be kept fully and usefully employed so they may continue to buy New Zealand farmers’ produce. Full realization of these fundamentals by the people of the Dominion must be brought home to the responsible Government Ministers if New Zealand is to maintain an economic and high standard of living for its people.”
